CREATIVE OPTIONS

Voices of Appreciation

Transformation happens one letter at a time. Our courses in parenting, anger management, and recovery are entirely self-funded and run by volunteers who give their time freely, sharing only their first names with the students they guide. These notes highlight the immense dedication of our incarcerated students to change their futures, and the quiet generosity of the volunteers who help them get there.

"My cellmate is currently doing Anger Managment and I see that it is a great course very in depth. Also his course supervisor Martina seems very hands on and actually reads his responses and gives good feedback. I hope to get her as ion supervisor or one like her that is hands on. It's good to know you guys care."

Raymond, California

“I am a father of a 14-year-old and I have been incarcerated her entire life. What this program has done was assist me in areas that are/were rather difficult to discuss, such as sex and drugs. I didn’t want to give the impression that I condoned sex or would tolerate drug use. After reading the materials, I was encouraged to share portions of the lessons and ask for her response. Now we are closer than ever.”

J.Y., Avenal Prison

“It is rare that anyone sees us as God-fearing, or even human. So to see that someone thinks the contrary gives me hope. I want everyone at CREATIVE OPTIONS to know, we are thankful as lifers, for offering us an opportunity to grow, as well as show the Board of Prison Terms we are attempting to help ourselves. The tools you have provided are now incorporated into who I am. Thank You”

Earl, Folsom Prison

“As I worked through my anger management course, I learned things about myself I do not feel I would have otherwise. There is a psychology behind behavior that I paid no attention to and that was to my detriment.”

Adrian, C.S.P.
